HELP US MEET OUR ANNUAL FUND GOAL
Help us meet our Annual Fund Goal of $46,000 for
46 Years of Service
to children throughout Monterey County!
Lyceum Academic EventS:
- Monterey County Mock Trial: January 22-27 (Grades 9-12) – Over 100 participants signed up for 2007.
§ Monterey County Spelling Bee: February 3 (Grades 4-5) – Thousands of participants signed up from 36 schools.
- Monterey County History Day: March 10-11 (Grades 4-12) – Over 600 participants signed up for 2007.
SAMIs: SCIENCE, ART, AND MUSIC INTENSIVE PROGRAMS:
Thanks to the generosity of our donors and the community, we are now able to offer over 50 SAMI Programs at elementary and middle schools throughout the county, in addition to over 200 public mentor programs each year.
Effective Education for our Children takes resources: It takes $200,000 to coordinate and run our SAMI Programs (Science, Art, and Music Intensives) and over $35,000 to coordinate three annual countywide Academic Events. Grant Money and Registration covers only a portion of these costs for deeply discounted programs at Title I Schools
- We are in need of $46,000 for our 2006-2007 School Year. That’s $1,000 for every year of service that we’ve provided to children throughout Monterey County.
TODAY, we urge you to MAKE A DONATION that will help us continue to offer the kinds of after-school programs and academic events that inspire a life-long love of learning in our local children.
We really need your financial assistance today
– every dollar SUPPORTS LOCAL CHILDREN!
The Lyceum of Monterey County has helped local students receive a well-rounded, complete education throughout Monterey County for over 46 years and our goal is to continue this support for generations to come.
Please join us today and be part of the inspiration.
Sincerely,

Adrienne Meckel, Ph.D. Juliette Calandra Ferguson
President, Board of Directors Executive Director
P.S. Every $20, $50, or $100 will buy a partial or full scholarship for ONE LOCAL STUDENT to participate in a multi-session ART, SCIENCE, or MUSIC Program offered on the Peninsula, in Salinas, and in South County!

Spelling Bee Winners - 4th/5th Grade - February 2007
LYCEUM SPELLING BEE GROWS FROM 50 TO 74 PARTICIPANTS….
The Lyceum of Monterey County is sponsoring Monterey County’s 4th and 5th Grade Spelling Bee on Saturday, February 3rd 2007 at 10:00 am. It should run approximately 2 hours. The event will be held at San Benancio Middle School, 43 San Benancio Road in Salinas.
Seventy-four students (up from 50 last year) will be selected to represent their own public or private elementary school, competing for the title of ‘Top Speller’ in Monterey County’s 4th and 5th Grade Spelling Bee – this is after three rounds of competition at thirty-seven local elementary schools.
Thirty-four of the County’s public and private elementary schools will send their two best spellers to represent their school with the hopes of bringing home the title. The top four spellers will receive a plaque and all finalists and alternates will receive ribbons and certificates of participation. Calling the words for this year’s final round will be radio and TV cooking personality, Alan Mello.
Currently in its 23rd year, the 4th and 5th Grade Spelling Bee is sponsored by The Lyceum of Monterey County. Please join us and let the community know what an extraordinary job the students and judges do for this annual event. It is truly a 'feel good' story with excellent photo opportunities.
The Lyceum's mission is to inspire a life-long love of learning. We accomplish this by offering enrichment classes that aim to stimulate individual creativity, intellectual promise and academic motivation in children. The Lyceum's uniquely diverse program enriches the daily lives of children throughout Monterey County, including Salinas and Salinas Valley. We help local children to prepare for the future. The Lyceum of Monterey County is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Executive Director, Juliette Ferguson, 831-372-6098, juliette@lyceum.org.
We look forward to seeing you there!

Monterey County History Day 2007 was held March 10th and 11th at Los Arboles Middle School in Marina. Three hundred local students participated in this year’s competition, creating projects based on the theme “Triumph and Tragedy in History.” Currently in its 17th year, Monterey County History Day is coordinated by the Lyceum of Monterey County and the Monterey County Office of Education, and supported by AT&T Pebble Beach Charities, the funding arm of Monterey Peninsula Foundation.
